My EDU 506 Course Portfolio
This course is one that I have felt rather competent in, having spent much of my academic life using most of the additions we have practiced this semester. However, this class specifically connected the programs we use to our professional lives. I have learned not only how to organize myself professional, but to present my work and evaluation in an attractive and eye-catching manner.
Not all of our work has come easily to me, of course. I will most likely always struggle with the functions in Excel. I also had trouble using FrontPage, however that seems to come from my preference of writing the HTML code myself. I am glad that I have used these programs though, since I am able to make education comparisons about such things.
Title: Lesson Plan- Africa PhotoStory Project
Description: In this Global 9 lesson, students will research in groups an issue given to them. After they have found enough research, they will start designing/creating a PowerPoint show, except that when they save the show, they will save it as JPEG files. Once this is done they will open PhotoStory 3 and import these files.
Following the program, they will edit the transition types and times, add appropriate music, or record their speeches. During their Presentations, students will discuss not only what the issue was and why, but how we can help. This type of project can be used for any subject, topic, and grade level. I would suggest making this a background project, with the presentations either before or after a vacation.
Reflection: I adored this lesson when I taught it during student teaching. It not only connected the students with a new technology, it moved them closer to events detached from our lives and showed them they could make a difference. So I am glad I could give this lesson an equally attractive lesson plan.

Title: Spreadsheet- Grade Book
Description: This was not a project centered on a topic or even a subject, but for my own classroom use. With Excel, I created a grade book in order to create an organization system that will my math use to a minimum. I would make sure to keep an eye on the average function, as a wrong input could greatly hurt someone’s grade.
Reflection: This is a template I will use during my entire career, to make sure I get the average correct. I personally find the functions difficult to use, as the look of them makes it hard to find a typo.

Title: PowerPoint- Rainforest Destruction
Description:This presentation could be given to any grade level, and multiple subject courses depending on the time of year. This presentation shows what is a rainforest, the issues happening currently in them by human greed, and how we can help stop/reduce what is happening. I would suggest this in the beginning of the year, as you may get the student stalking about fundraising or raising awareness that the school can produce.
Reflection: My greatest wish is to get the students helping to increase community awareness and involvement in environmentalism. This could be one of the best ways to get the ball rolling. We made it fun to catch the students’ attention, and hopefully outraged at our destruction of something so necessary to life.
